Runa Simi (2025) / Peru / 81 min / PG
Scottish Documentary Institute is excited to present Runa Simi (2025), a powerful call to action for Indigenous representation and language justice.
Fernando, a Peruvian voice actor, embarks on a daring quest to persuade Disney to dub The Lion King into Quechue, hoping to save his native language - only to discover that the journey becomes a deeply personal odyssey of fatherhood and activism, with his 8-year old son, Dylan, by his side. Fernando navigates countless ups and downs, facing rejection, setbacks, and self-doubt. Yet through it all, his determination never wavers, turning his personal mission into a powerful call for language justice and cultural reclamation.
The screening will be introduced by Mercedes Sullca, founder and president of the Latin American Community Association of Edinburgh (L.A.C.A.E), followed by a sing-a-long to The Lion King’s Hakuna Matata in Quechua!
Tickets are available via sliding scale, from £2 - £12.
This screening is part of Doc Screen, an initiative run by Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) in partnership with Filmhouse.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
