A Winter Garden: Gelli Printing captures the quiet beauty of the season. Seedheads, bare branches, and frosted textures become your tools.
With gel plates, you’ll create unique prints that show every vein and stem. Perfect for anyone who loves quilting, art journals, cardmaking, or mixed media.
What you’ll learn in A Winter Garden: Gelli Printing Workshop
In this workshop you will:
Make simple mark-making tools and print blocks from everyday items.
Use gel plates to take highly detailed impressions from seedheads, leaves, and other natural finds.
Explore which papers and fabrics work best for Gelli Printing.
Layer colour and texture to capture the crisp, skeletal forms of winter gardens.
Assemble your prints into a folded concertina book, or use them as wall art, collage, or fabric design.
By the end of this Workshop, you’ll have your own curated collection of winter-inspired prints ready to use in your creative projects.
Why A Winter Garden: Gelli Printing Workshop is perfect for you
This workshop is designed to free you from relying on commercial printed papers or fabrics. Instead, you’ll design your own—unique, atmospheric, and seasonal.
Quilters will love being able to print original fabrics for patchwork.
Cardmakers and art journallers can create personal, one-off papers.
Mixed media artists can use the prints for collage, embroidery, or bookmaking.
No drawing or previous art skills are required. Nature provides the patterns—you simply print them. Every sheet will be completely individual.
Who should join this workshop?
This event is for anyone who enjoys making. Beginners are welcome, and experienced makers will still discover fresh approaches. Whether your focus is quilting, paper crafts, sketchbooks, or simply exploring new ideas, this seasonal workshop will give you inspiration to take away.
Course details
All printing equipment is provided.
You’ll bring your own papers and light fabrics (guidance is sent when booking).
Expect to leave with a collection of seasonal prints
The workshop takes place at Artisan Stitch, Edinburgh – award-winning sewing and textile art tuition.
A Winter Garden: Gelli Printing Workshop is more than a technique session. It’s a way to slow down, look closely at the forms of winter, and carry those textures into your art.
