With artists hand-picked by guest curators Arusa Qureshi and Halina Rifai of We Are Here Scotland - staged in our intimate performance space - AMPLIFI presents an exciting opportunity to see new and rising artists in a setting designed to amplify their voices and put them centre stage.

Angeline Morrison:
Angeline Morrison is one of the freshest voices in English folk music today, and is widely celebrated for her soulful, resonant voice, evocative songwriting and deeply affecting performances. A folk singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Angeline’s ground-breaking 2022 album The Sorrow Songs : Folk Songs of Black British Experience was Folk Album of the year in The Guardian, received unanimous acclaim and spent 15 weeks in the Top #40 Official Folk Albums Chart. Making her TV debut on Later With Jools Holland, Angeline has also recently appeared at many top festivals including Glastonbury and the London Jazz Festival.
Djana Gabrielle:
Djana Gabrielle is an Edinburgh based French-Cameroonian Indie-Folk singer-songwriter, musician, composer and performer. She has been honing her craft on the Scottish music scene since 2015 and lately has been combining her love for music and theatre, working with various Scottish theatre companies . She is currently in the midst of developing her own dance-theatre show with live music and also plans on releasing new music in the near future.
Miwa Nagato-Apthorp:
Miwa Nagato-Apthorp is a Singer-Songwriter based in Hawick in the Scottish Borders. Her practice is often collaborative and draws on folk traditions to explore multicultural understandings of history, climate, gender and home. Miwa was recently Musician in Residence at Alchemy Film & Arts, where she worked on new songs about Hawick’s lesser-known histories and heritages and has performed at John McCusker’s Southside of The Tracks, Celtic Connections and opened for Rachel Sermanni and Eddi Reader.
Curators:
Arusa Qureshi is an award-winning writer, editor and speaker with a passion for music, diversity and accessibility within arts and culture. Her book about women in UK hip hop, ‘Flip the Script’, is out now via 404 Ink. She has bylines in The Guardian, NME, Clash, Time Out, The Forty-Five and The Scotsman.
Halina Rifai is a podcast producer, music writer, PR & digital marketer. She founded music site Podcart in 2009 and went on to become a podcast producer, working with the likes of The Big Light, The Ferret, Mental Health Foundation, Fringe of Colour and many more. Podcasts she has worked on and continue to work on include Sheku Bayoh: The Inquiry and A Sonic Hug. Halina is Communications Manager for We Are Here Scotland – A space aimed at supporting and raising the voices of Black People and People of Colour creatives across Scotland.
