Join us for a must-see Palestinian documentary followed by a reflective writing workshop.
LYD boldly reimagines what documentary cinema can achieve, fusing realism with science fiction to tell the story of Lyd, a 5,000-year-old city that connected Palestine to the world. Today, it is called Lod and mapped as part of Israel, a quiet renaming that masks a violent rupture.
This ambitious, eye-opening film creates something entirely unprecedented in its approach to historical trauma and deliberate erasure. Moving between the real world of archival footage and testimonies, and a fictional technicolor realm where the Nakba never happened, the film traces the fractures left behind by war, displacement, and occupation.
Inspired by the film's vision of Palestine beyond occupation, our writing workshop explores how documentary can activate spaces to rethink and rewrite our futures. An exercise in political imagination, this session will be led by Greek-Palestinian filmmaker and PhD researcher Theo Panagopoulos. No previous writing experience necessary, just bring your vision of liberation.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
