After connecting with millions online through her viral typewriter poetry videos, Olivia Dodd brings her deeply personal and emotionally resonant debut play The Poetess to the stage.
About The Poetess
This compelling show merges storytelling, poetry and audience interaction in a moving theatrical exploration of the healing power of words. Inspired by Dodd’s own journey of writing thousands of custom poems for strangers around the world - for which the most common topic requested was “I feel lost” - The Poetess explores what it means to listen, to connect, and to heal — not just others, but ourselves.
At the heart of the narrative is Viola, a modern-day poet who inherits her late grandmother’s beloved typewriter. When a mysterious letter from her late grandmother arrives, Viola uncovers a legacy of unspoken dreams. As she steps into the role of “the poetess,” she discovers the transformative power of writing poems for strangers and in doing so, begins to piece together her own sense of purpose.
