Andrew teaches on the Painting course at Leith School of Art, and leads the Advancing Studio Practice course.
This exhibition brings together a new large-scale drawing in soft pastel and gouache, with lithography, etching, oil on card, watercolour and preparatory charcoal drawings.
This body of work has been inspired by a barn on the side of a moor near Andrew's home in the Scottish Borders. The barn drawings and paintings presented in this exhibition touch on our relationship with the land that sustains us, of which we are a part, and gently question it. The works present an unsettling, yet beautiful, atmosphere; a tension between human and non-human worlds. This tension is suggested in a number of ways: the positioning of the barn against a dark bank of sheltering pine trees, delicate young trees and tree tubes against abstracted line drawing, or through the occasional use of strong colour.
This exhibition is presented in collaboration with the &Gallery.
