In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to transform scrap wood into a functional and attractive garden planter.
The workshop is perfect for beginners and experienced DIYers alike and will equip you with the skills to build your own simple planter to grow your own food or flowers to support biodiversity.
The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to how to reduce waste through reuse. You will then be guided through the types of wood suitable for planters and how to prepare scrap wood for building. Your tutor will then show you basic planter design and customisation options before you get hands on and start building a planter of your own!
You will learn how to measure and mark the wood, assemble the planter frame with nails, screws or glue, sand the rough edges and then seal or paint it for outdoor use and durability.
The workshop is a great opportunity to learn a new sustainable skill while meeting new people and having fun outdoors. You will leave with the practical skills and confidence to take on DIY wood scrap projects at home.
All materials will be provided for the session, including scrap wood in various sizes, hand tools, nails, screws and wood glue, sandpaper and protective finishes, and safety equipment.
Please note the workshop will take place outdoors, so please dress for the weather!
