In the late 80’s whilst playing in a German rock band, Mick McConnell met Smokie for the first time and this started a long and lasting friendship resulting in Mick joining Smokie in 1996 as their Lead Guitarist and vocalist.
While he continues to play with Smokie on European and Australian tours, Mick spends a lot of his spare time recording and writing new material and is often found collaborating with other musicians.
His ‘Under my Skin’ album which was recorded in Nashville with some of the finest musicians in the business, received a lot of critical acclaim. It was played in heavy rotation on European and USA blues radio stations and peaked at no 13 in the European Blues charts. Mick has also featured in the centre pages of ‘Blues Matters’
Since Smokie tours are confirmed two years in advance, gaps in their schedule have allowed him to put together his own band. Blue Thunder, to be the perfect vehicle for his blues- infused rock.
They have just finished an 11 date UK Tour in February this year playing to some of the best venues in the UK which finished off at the iconic '100 Club' in London
The support act will be singer songwriter Andy Barbour from 'The Silver Arrow Collective' whose songs are a blend of blue-infused vibes that will win over any audience with ease.
