Teho. is a Finnish power-fiddle duo that explodes musical boundaries while having roots deeply in the tradition.
Teho’s fiddlers Esko Järvelä and Tero Hyväluoma grew up in Central Ostrobothnia, an area known for its extremely virile and rich folk music scene. UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee designated the Kaustinen fiddle playing tradition on their list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of humankind in 2021.
Teho.’s music combines fluently Finnish traditional fiddling, Norwegian halling, Swedish polska, bebop, western swing, and their own contemporary folk music. Improvisation plays also big part of the duo’s sound. Tero and Esko are both top-notch names in the Nordic folk music field and cross-over freelancers without genre boundaries. They have played together since their teens in various bands and projects, including one of the most well-known Finnish folk bands Frigg.
Teho.’s debut release was nominated for Finnish Grammy(Emma Awards) in 2018. In April 2023 Teho. released their second album Not a Violin Duo. Since then they have toured in Sweden, Germany, France and Australia, and showcased at Your Roots Are Showing 2025 in Ireland and Nordic Folk Alliance 2024 in Denmark.
