JOY. & Holler Live present
Colby T. Helms + support
At the edge of the Southwest Virginia foothills, 21-year-old Colby T. Helms lives in an "underground house" built by his late father on family land. Colby’s love for music began at 12, inspired by Blue Ridge old-time and bluegrass musicians who performed at his father’s funeral. Self-taught on guitar, banjo, and mandolin, he set out at 16 to play wherever he could in the Blue Ridge region. By 18, he had written Tales of Misfortune, a semi-autobiographical concept album that traces his journey, the choices he made, and memories of his father. Tracks like “Higher Ground” and “Mountain Brandy” reveal Colby’s pursuit of his dream and roots, while “Daddy’s Pocket Knife” offers a poignant metaphor for his artistic journey. Tales of Misfortune, his debut album with Photo Finish Records, releases in January 2024. Colby is managed by Dolphus Ramseur and represented by New Frontier Touring.
This is a 14+ event. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
