About Fire and Light: A Candlelight Christmas at 7 Charlotte Square
In Edinburgh’s New Town, Christmas, or "Yule," was a month-long celebration bursting with lively parties, grand balls, and heartwarming family gatherings. Discover the rich blend of Celtic, Norse, and Christian traditions that made Yule truly unique, with festivities centered around the winter solstice—the longest night of the year. Immerse yourself in the enchanting customs of the past, from decorating with lush greenery to lighting fires that brought warmth and light into the darkest nights.
Explore tales of ancient Scottish traditions, taste the flavors of Georgian-era food and drinks, and uncover the fascinating connection between this historic house and Charles Dickens, the beloved author of A Christmas Carol.
This is a free-flow experience, so come anytime between 6:00pm and 7:00pm and let the festive spirit of Edinburgh's past sweep you away! Event concludes at 8pm.
