A concert of songs for and about the sea with women shanty singers She Shanties and Edinburgh folk and roots community choir Castle Chorus. She Shanties will sing a range of traditional sea shanties from throughout the ages and Castle Chorus will share some of their own co-created songs and others inspired by the sea.
About She Shanties
Eleven women drawn together by the love of a right good sing. They've sung at festivals around the UK and Europe, on boats, in a lighthouse, in churches and in a surprising number of women’s toilets. With two recorded releases, EP Spanker Boom (2015) and full length album Futtock Shroud (2018), She Shanties are: Bekka Bojanowski, Cath Tyler, Eilish Ferry-Kennington, Esther Ferry-Kennington, Freyja Boycott-Garnett, Kate Gessey, Rachel Hamer, Ruthie Boycott-Garnett, Ruth Price, Sadie Greenwood and Sally Gall.
About Castle Chorus
Led by Musical Director Caro Overy, Castle Chorus are a community choir open to all who sing folk and roots songs from around the world and throughout the ages, sometimes write our own songs together, and collaborate with songwriters and artists on new work. We've sung at a wide range of venues from Rosslyn Chapel, to the Pianodrome, to a beach on the Isle of Arran and been part of two shows in the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
