Edinburgh Open Workshop (EOW) is delighted to once again take part in Doors Open Day - Scotland’s largest free festival celebrating heritage and the built environment.
Members of the public are invited to step inside EOW’s thriving makerspace and discover the creative energy that fuels its community. Visitors will have the chance to explore fully equipped workshops and studios, meet resident makers, and gain a first-hand look at the craftsmanship behind everything from furniture and textiles to metalwork and screen printing.
Free guided tours will run every half hour between 11am and 3pm, starting from reception. Each 30-minute tour will visit the woodwork, metalwork, textile, and screen printing areas, before finishing in EOW’s event and community space, where an exhibition of resident makers’ work will be on display. Pieces ranging from bespoke furniture to handcrafted textiles and upholstery will be available to view, purchase, or commission directly from the makers.
For those eager to roll up their sleeves, hands-on workshops will also be running throughout the day. Adults and children (aged 13+) can try their hand at woodworking, welding, painting, soldering, or sewing in supervised sessions lasting from 90 minutes to a full day. Prices start at £40 per person, and advance booking is recommended.
Home to a diverse mix of creatives - from furniture makers, bladesmiths, and upholsterers to bike fabricators, set builders, and prop makers - EOW is a hub for anyone with a passion for making. A 50% discount on memberships will also be available for those who sign up on the day, offering the perfect opportunity to begin (or expand) your own creative journey.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
