About Tapestry 5: Time & Place
Tapestry 5 bring their new show of small format, woven tapestries to Edinburgh’s Dovecot in July 2024. Featuring work from five, Scottish based weavers, Time & Place, opens a window on a different and timely approach to the ancient art form of tapestry weaving.
The work is inspired by urban spaces, the sea, the sky and Norse Myths. Drawing inspiration from experience, the group pay homage to the emotional content of colour, the use of natural and plant fibres, and narrative based textiles -from Scotland to Lahore.
Bringing a small format exhibition to Dovecot allows a wider community greater access, enabling visitors to see a less monumental and civic approach to weaving. These are not tapestries to hang in large buildings and museums, but on individual and community walls. It brings together the large canvas of Dovecot’s weaving with the smaller, individual approach to the same art form.
