Fronted by esteemed burlesque star Belle De Beauvoir, dubbed by the BBC as “the sparkling diamond of burlesque”, and Dexy’s Midnight Runners keytarist Pete Saunders, the duo will take over Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms with a politically driven show which promises to showcase the “f***ing state of the arts industry”.
The two working class artists, who met four years ago in their hometown Birmingham at a cabaret club, will blend burlesque, live music, performance and cabaret to highlight the £56 million pounds worth of cuts to London’s arts funding over the next three years, as directed by the previous Conservative Government. The newly devised show, which was inspired by their lossmaking sold out 2023 run at the Fringe, will look to put an honest, comedic spin on the difficulties of trying to make a living as an artist yet struggle to afford food for the table.
From £11pp on weekdays (£13pp on the weekend), Blues & Burlesque will run from the 2nd of August to the 25th at 9.10pm every day (except Monday’s), followed by additional late showings on Thursday & Sunday. Due to the nature of the show and the issues Belle De Beauvoir and Pete Saunders are looking to highlight, a special Free Fringe Show will run between the 14th of August to the 25th, where audience members can attend by paying ‘only what they can’, in a bid to make burlesque as accessible to as many people as possible.
