The Ganzfeld Procedure is a simple experiment that involves listening to white noise and looking at a uniform field of light. After several minutes, many people who try it report mild visual and auditory hallucinations.
During this event, we'll explain a little more about the Ganzfeld Effect (including why and how it works), and tell you a bit about the history of this strange phenomena. You'll then have the opportunity to try it out for yourself. Of course, you don't have to: you're also welcome just to watch other participants.
The Ganzfeld Procedure is an entirely safe and non-invasive procedure. It involves listening to radio static and looking at a uniform field of light. Most hallucinations are quite mild, and you can stop them at any time just by looking away, blinking or stepping out of the room.
After the demonstration, we'll compare notes on what we saw, heard and experienced. The intensity of the Effect varies from person to person... so you may be surprised by what some other participants see and hear!
We'll be doing all of this in the beautiful Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre in Edinburgh. We think it's an appropriate setting, since Conan Doyle himself was a big fan of trying things out through experimentation!
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
