2024 marks 200 years since the world’s first public, local authority funded Fire Service was established here in Edinburgh. As we celebrate the past, we also think about what the fire service has become, and how it might look in the future.
This writing workshop uses storytelling prompts and techniques to explore our museum collection in new ways. You’ll think creatively, playfully, about the future to imagine new tales about the future of firefighting.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have the bones of your own story and an idea of how to go about writing it for yourself (if you want to!) Hopefully you’ll find yourself looking at the fire service in a new way too.
This workshop is sponsored by Open Past through an artist residency fund from Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities. It will be delivered by Michael Deerwater. Michael has a History degree from King’s College London, an MA in Film from the University of East London (UEL), and an MLitt in Creative Writing from the University of Glasgow, where he is currently working toward his doctorate.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
