Health Benefits of Drinking Moderately: Too Good to be True?

Professor Stockwell will present the latest evidence of the effect of moderate drinking on our cardiovascular health at this hybrid event at Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 17th April.

Health Benefits of Drinking Moderately: Too Good to be True?

About Health Benefits of Drinking Moderately: Too Good to be True?

Join us at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) (and online) for an evening public lecture organised by Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems (SHAAP) and the Institute of Alcohol Studies (IAS), in collaboration with the RCPE.

Professor Tim Stockwell will discuss the evidence on the belief that drinking small amounts of alcohol can be good for you.

Professor Stockwell held the position of director of the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research (CISUR, formerly the Centre for Addictions Research of BC) since its inception in 2004 until 2020. He has also been a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Victoria since 2004. He has published over 400 research papers, book chapters and monographs, plus several books on prevention and treatment issues. Several of Professor Stockwell’s papers have specifically questioned the widely held belief that alcohol in moderation has cardiac benefits.

This hybrid event is being held the evening before the RCPE’s Symposium: Alcohol and Substance Use: busting myths and finding solutions.

Professor Stockwell’s lecture will take place in the Conference Centre at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE), and online. Refreshments will be available in the Conference Centre Foyer from 5.30pm, with the lecture beginning at 6pm, and running until 7pm.
