Lach, - a musician, author,BBC Radio 4 Comedy star, the founder of Antifolk and a figure synonymous with its rise to global recognition, plus David Cronenberg's Wife, a band hailed by BBC 6 Music for their contributions to London's Antifolk landscape.
This event, dubbed "Antifolk As F***," aims to shine a light on the genre's culturally significant history and its pivotal role in launching the careers of artists who have gone on to sell millions of records worldwide, including luminaries such as Beck, Regina Spektor, and The Moldy Peaches. Antifolk, which emerged from the creative cauldron of New York’s East Village in the 1980s, has always been a sanctuary for artists who navigate the nuanced spaces between folk's traditional melodicism and punk's unapologetic rawness.
Lach – Lach is the founder of Antifolk, the international phenomenon that’s been cited as a main inspiration for such acts as Beck, Regina Spektor, Laura Marling and hundreds of others. With six critically acclaimed albums (“5 stars. Splendid, best of its kind!”-Mojo Magazine), a sold-out book of poetry (“Outstandingly beautiful.”-stirlingwriter.com), a hit BBC Radio 4 comedy series ‘The Lach Chronicles’, and a featured performance in the recent award-winning movie “Meet Me In The Bathroom” along with The Strokes, Interpol and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, it’s no wonder Timeout London calls him “NYC’s living legend.”
David Cronenberg’s Wife – Described as “where genius meets idiocy” by Mark Lamarr, stalwarts of the UK version of Antifolk, David Cronenberg’s Wife have been entertaining and shocking listeners over the last two decades with their subversive story-telling. With several BBC 6Music sessions under their belt (Marc Riley and Cerys Matthews) and having supported such legends as The Fall, The Nightingales, and Wreckless Eric, DCW come to Edinburgh for the first time for a special stripped down show featuring lead singer Tom Mayne, keyboardist Mary Boe and drummer Tom Hemingtom. With subject matter ranging from the president of Kazakhstan to erotic encounters with mermaids, DCW’s dark tales continue to amuse and disturb.
