"Matthew Shiel shone" (ThisWeek Culture)
Tonight's Films: Charlie Chaplin's Police (1916) and A Trip to the Moon (1902)
Transport yourself back in time to the golden era of Hollywood and experience the magic of the silent screen as you watch timeless classic films unfold. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theatre organist—or even, in larger cities, an orchestra—would play music to accompany the films. Tonight, in keeping with silent cinema traditions, Charlie Chaplin's iconic Police (1916) and A Trip to the Moon (1902), widely regarded as the earliest example of the science fiction genre and as one of the most influential films in cinema history will be accompanied with live piano accompaniment from award-winning pianist and improviser Matthew Shiel.
This event is an unique opportunity to witness the genius of silent cinematography and relive the magic of silent cinema. Grab your friends and family, and join us for an unforgettable evening filled with laughter and entertainment!
Your ticket includes a complimentary drink and popcorn.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
