Walker Henderson Watson Trio presented by Red Door
Originally an oboe player, Perth-born Graham Walker took up the saxophone at the age of seventeen and played extensively on the Newcastle music scene while studying languages at the local university. Following work as a musician on cruise ships he studied at the Guildhall School of Music – the highlight of this time being a Guildhall Big Band concert with trumpet legend Randy Brecker, at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in 1990.
In 1993, he moved to Belgium, where he played with many top Belgian musicians and gigged throughout the country - leading his own trio Raise 3 and also a larger Miles Davis fusion era-type group.
Since returning to Scotland in 2016 Graham has played in big band and small group formats, including the Inverkeithing Community Big Band. His musical philosophy is influenced strongly by the great saxophonists of the past, including Lester Young, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Stan Getz, and many others, who are all inspirations for the melodic content and warmth of tone in his playing.
Guitarist Kevin Henderson is a graduate of the Jazz Course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, subsequently forming a quartet with fellow Conservatoire alumni Ewan Hastie, Greg Irons and Dan Brown. His own compositions are inspired by contemporary jazz, Latin and Scottish themes; his improvisation colourful and melodic. He plans to record his debut album in 2024, featuring some of the biggest names in Scottish jazz.
Originally from the north of Scotland, bassist Ali Watson grew up in Glasgow, before moving to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music, where he formed a trio with drummer Tom Potter and pianist Tim Lallemont. Returning to Scotland in 2022, he formed a quartet with Glasgow musicians pianist Alan Benzie, drummer Greg Irons and saxophonist Matt Carmichael (Ali is a longstanding member of Carmichael’s acclaimed quintet.)
