“I offer you my heart” says he.
“I’ll hold you to that” says she.
In the course of one hour that pledge is tested, insight is gained into their hearts, their dreams and their ambitions.
James Joyce, eyesight failing, forges on with what will eventually become his best-known work. Meanwhile Nora must hold the family together whilst the map of Europe shifts and changes around them, driving them further into exile.
Connected by desire, sometimes separated with frustration, we follow Nora Barnacle and James Joyce as they set sail from Dublin on a cold windy October night in 1904 to embark on this most intriguing and celebrated of literary relationships.
Presented by Dublin Theatre Productions for its Scottish premiere tour, Nora and Jim channels their story with acuity, sensitivity and charm. Written by Nora Connolly. Directed by Ronan Wilmot. Produced by Kevin Cronin and Jimmy Watson. Featuring Julie Hale (Shetland, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime West End & World Tour) as Nora and Rúaidhrí Conroy (Into the West, Six Shooter, received the Theatre World Award for his performance in The Cripple of Inishmaan) as Joyce.
