The Open University in Scotland is excited to be hosting our Poetry & Ageing Café as part of the Being Human Festival 2023, a UK-wide celebration of humanities research through public engagement.
Join us for a comparative and creative exploration of what it means to grow old through poetry, ancient and modern, over a cup of tea or coffee.
This free interactive workshop draws upon poetry about ageing from ancient Greece as inspiration to reflect upon our own experiences of growing older through poetry-based activities.
• Read poems from ancient Greece to find out how ageing impacted on the bodies, relationships and lives of people in antiquity
• Try out some poetry-writing activities and make a start on your own short poem to explore some of the physical, emotional and social changes that accompany growing old today
• Make connections, share ideas and develop new skills, supported by OU researchers and creative writers
Tickets are free and can be booked via the Being Human Festival events page or directly on Eventbrite.
The Being Human Festival is led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. For further information, please see beinghumanfestival.org.
