About Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra
Founded in 2002 to provide a free educational opportunity for promising young jazz musicians, the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra has gone on to nurture some of the biggest talents in Scottish jazz today.
With three albums released to enthusiastic media responses internationally, the TSYJO continues to develop the stars of tomorrow by encouraging them to perform the music of jazz’s masters with skill, creativity and exuberance in concerts that celebrate individualism, teamwork, and the ability to improvise.
Join us on Sunday the 6th of October to hear an extraordinary concert of outstanding music and improvisation by the skilful TSYJO showcasing big-band music by Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Astor Piazzolla, Jaco Pastorius, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington, plus a new composition by Jazzmeia Horn called Free Your Mind starring our singer Laura Oghagbon.
