This 4 week block of classes, taught by Tharanga Wicramasinghe, introduces children to the basics of the dance form, through movement and storytelling.
About Beginners Kandyan Dance classes for Children (Sri Lankan dance form)
Dates: Sunday mornings 20th August to 10th September 2023
Kandyan Dance is one of the three main classical dance styles in Sri Lanka. Originally composed and performed in the central highlands of the country, Through generations and many different lineages of teachers, Kandyan dance has evolved since to incorporate folktales, cultural and global influences and elements of creative performing arts. It is an energetic and dynamic style originally performed to the Drum called Gata Bera specifically designed for this style.
This 4 week block of classes introduces children to the basics of the dance form, through movement and storytelling. The class is suitable for children aged 7 and above.
The class is taught by Kandyan dancer Tharanga Wicramasinghe. Thara is passionate about introduce this beautiful, dynamic and unique dance style in Scotland. Thara loves working with children and sparking their creativity and firing up their imagination through dance, movement and storytelling.
