We will be using Sculpey, a professional quality clay used by movie effects studios.
Over 2 hours we will go through the full workflow for making a sculpted model from highlighting the importance of a structural wire armature (skeleton), foil flesh-out (to bulk-out the skeleton), then adding and shaping the polymer clay.
This workshop focusses on giving you the knowledge you need to get started on any sculpting project of your own, and whilst I'll be showing tips and tricks on clay modelling the emphasis is on the full workflow rather than on the finer points of sculpting itself. You will finish the workshop with a full sculpture that you can then cure at home or continue working on at your leisure.
Sculpey is an extremely stable polymer clay that is easy to use and doesnt dry out or set until heated at 130 degrees C in a household oven. It stays sculptable indefinitely so you can work on it for weeks/months or even years until you're happy. I've actually done sculpts over multiple years without any loss of sculpting quality from Sculpey; it's awesome stuff! Sculpey is not water soluble.
All you need to do is bring a box (approx 6 inch square) to take your sculpt home in, then pop it in your oven for 30 minutes at 130 degrees C per 1/4 inch thickness of clay and it will set solid. You can then paint it with acrylic paints if required.
All materials and tools will be provided including polymer clay (approx. 250g each), armature wire, pliers and sculpt tools; just bring your box to keep your sculpt protected on the way home.
