Japanese Tea Ceremony 日本茶道
Her enchanting Japanese tea ceremony will be accompanied with live music provided by Orchestre á six mains and percussionist Dr Jake Spence and his remarkable collection of bells and gongs.
Three thousand years ago, the ancient Greeks recognised the special power of music to heal and doctors would often prescribe listening to music as a remedy or cure for various ailments. Tonight, we harness the power of music to unlock our creative potential, reach a deeper level of consciousness and bring fresh insights to popular classical piano repertoire including music by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Debussy and Mozart.
These concert experiences are a wonderful way to wind down after a busy week, whether working or ‘Edinburgh Fringing.'
Ticket includes a complimentary Japanese green tea.
There will be a retiring collection in aid of mental health charity Mind.
Orchestre á six mains is an innovative piano ensemble which celebrates the rarely performed music for one piano, six hands - in effect, three pianists at one piano, creating the impression of a 'piano-orchestra.' It is a international collaboration between three alumni of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland: Nicole Bovago Jacobsson (primo), Matthew Shiel (secondo) and Ailsa Aitkenhead (trio). Alongside their standard six hands repertoire, each pianist has personally chosen to contribute a favourite meditative piano solo and piano duet piece to accompany tonight's Japanese tea ceremony.
