Desire is a female focus boudoir photography exhibition brought by the hand of Edinburgh Palette. Through these portraits, we witness women on their journey of embracing their sensual desire through photography. By using both colour and black-and-white imagery, the photographer aimed to represent scenarios where women felt deeply connected to their sense of desirability and how this is related to the scenario where the pictures are taken, from homes to natural landscapes.
All the pictures are presented by Marina Solar, a Spanish photographer who during 2020 began her journey of self-discovery and her relationship with other women, giving birth to this exhibition. When society thinks of desire, probably it thinks from a male gaze perspective, whereas in this exhibition, Marina Solar, (Sly&Foxy), focuses on experiencing desire through the eyes of women themselves. Each one of the pictures portrays a female in which she takes back control of their sensuality, some more subtle, some bolder.
Drawing on her extensive background in street photography spanning over a decade, Marina Solar captures her subjects in a manner that evokes a sense of movement and vitality: every image tells a story, revealing the deep connection between the models and their surroundings, where all the bits of the image are important, giving a sense of connection and closeness, almost if the viewer is looking through a peephole into their lives.
The style of Marina Solar is quite recognizable: high contrast in her pictures, great presence of black and white and a deliberate absence of retouched bodies. She trusts in the absolute power of light and the art of posing and rejecting the digital manipulation of her subjects, In doing so, she challenges the overwhelming influence of media messages that distort self-love and self-acceptance, and photography is her medium to transform these concepts, inviting us to witness the profound beauty and strength found within each individual as they reclaim their desires.
