About Expanded Introduction to Etching - Summer Course
This Etching Summer school provides an expanded introduction to the versatile technique of etching. Working with innovative, less toxic processes which encourage spontaneous and diverse methods of mark-making.
Working directly onto zinc or copper plates, developing images through various hand applies techniques and using less toxic resins you will develop and print your own artwork through the etching process.
During the course participants will work on two or three etching plates, working with the properties of both metals and the mordants most commonly used at Edinburgh Printmakers to produce two or three developed imaged over the course, combining various techniques and processes as you learn. The size of the plates will 152mm x 203mm (6 x 8 inches).
The first two days you will be introduced to hard ground, soft ground, soft ground texture, coffee lift and aquatint processes and on the final day participants can choose to re-work one or both of their first two plates, start on a third or focus on printing techniques with demonstrations in relief roll, A la poupee and chine colle.
