This workshop will focus on two topics, Sand Dancing and jazz blues vocab! Both taking influence from the great singers, dancers and performers like James Brown, Sammy Davis Jr, Josephine Baker and Cab Calloway!
Originally taking its name from dancers covering a floor with sand, Sand Dancing encompasses a wide variety of cool slidy footwork across a range of Black American dance styles like blues and jazz. We will cover many classic steps and their common technique here (slidy, smooth soled shoes or socks will be needed so that you can comfortably do the steps).
And then for the jazz blues vocab we look at how we can put cool angular and asymmetric shapes into our bodies with moves like Snake Hips, the Mooche and the Harlem Slow Drag! Some experience of blues dancing is preferred but not essential.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
