A heart-shattering sequence of poem portraits in remembrance of the victims of the 22nd July attacks in Oslo and on Utøya Island
On the 22nd July 2011 an extreme right-wing terrorist detonated a bomb in central Oslo killing eight people and injuring a further 209. The perpetrator went on to commit a mass shooting on the island of Utøya, killing 69 people at the Norwegian Labour Party’s Youth summer camp, many of them teenagers.
Published 10 years after these tragic events, Utøya Thereafter comprises concrete elegies along with co-author Endre Ruset’s astonishing 2012 poem, Prosjektil (‘Projectile’). The book features an introduction by Ingvild Folkvord, Professor in the Department of Language and Literature at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
Join poets Harry Man and Endre Ruset in conversation about the challenges of writing about personal and national grief, collaboration and translation.
“A potential literary classic that will only grow in its importance.” Espen Grønlie and Pål H. Aasen, Klassekampen
“These are so moving and so beautiful. Such profound work.” - Ian McMillan
