About Us - Ooni
At Ooni we want to bring people together and create joy through shared food experiences. When husband and wife Kristian Tapaninaho and Darina Garland started Ooni back in 2012, they knew they wanted to create a company for good. 10 years later - we have revolutionised the outdoor cooking landscape bringing portable pizza ovens to pizza lovers across the world and we’ve pledged to become a regenerative company.
As a regenerative business we want to give back more to society and the planet than we take from it. We aim to play our part in making the planet better. We want to show everyone what our plans are, where we’re at and what’s to come (lots!), and we want to inspire other companies to follow our lead. With so much corporate greenwashing happening around us, we believe honesty, transparency and action are the way forward.
Constanza Moreno-Sánchez
Constanza is the Regenerative Business Team Leader at Ooni pizza ovens. Constanza had extensive experience in supply chain and logistics in her home country of Mexico before moving to Scotland where she studied an MSc in Sustainable Resource Management. Since graduating, her career has focused on helping organisations become more sustainable and enabling the shift to a regenerative mindset. For the last 3.5 years she's been helping Ooni spread the joy of pizza around the world and do it in a way that has a positive impact on the planet and its people.
Bellfield Brewery
We donate all of our brewery waste to a farmer in Midlothian who collects it each week. We also use a small amount ourselves, to make dog biscuits that are offered, free of charge, to any customers with dogs. Our purchase of a ‘hop rocket’ in 2019, means that we can significantly reduce waste in the form of the beer/hops slurry drawn off at the end of the brewing process achieving around 1.25 tonnes/year in reduced carbon emissions.
We aim to source local where we can, using local businesses to supply merchandise, raw materials and food to taproom guests, as well as choosing local and Scottish brands for our taproom drinks menu. We stock exclusively soft drinks and spirits made by other small, Scottish producers. Where we cannot source local, we choose brands with a clear social mission.
We have recently expanded our in house production facility so that we can double production on site, reducing the need to transport beer for packaging elsewhere. We use recycled cardboard packaging, paper labels printed in environmentally friendly ink, and aluminium cans (having removed glass bottles from our range).
All staff are paid - at least - the Living Wage: we became accredited in 2021.
