Kimpton Charlotte Square hotel in Edinburgh has collaborated with local art gallery Studio Bizio offering guests the opportunity to see a mix of both award-winning and emerging artists at its free exhibition.
Through the lens of three very different artists (Ruben Natal-San-Miguel, Joanna Black and Brian McFie), the group show ‘Spectrum’ is aimed at allowing viewers to consider and then layer their own interpretations of each piece of art.
Featuring for the first time at Kimpton Charlotte Square, American fine art photographer Ruben has previously showcased his work in numerous institutions around the world including The New York Public Library and The Makeshift Museum in Los Angeles. His stature in the photo world has earned him awards, countless exhibitions and collaborations with photo icons such as Magnum Photographer, Susan Meiselas.
Joanna, artist and co-founder of Studio Bizio, has received many honorary mentions from internationally recognised photography organisations for her conceptual art. As an emerging artist who is classed as “one to watch”, Joanna’s work has previously been exhibited in MoMA Tibilisi, Arles and Cologne.
She commented: “This partnership is a new chapter for the gallery as we team up with Kimpton Charlotte Square to produce a group show that is in keeping with the hotels inclusion policy and the desire for all people to find a positive mindset about society and life.
“Negatives can be turned into positives and this showcase of art aims at showing just that.”
As well as being an artist, Brian, who graduated from Glasgow School of Art is also a very talented musician having toured the world playing guitar with various artists including Marianne Faithful. His series ‘The Serious Uddlium’ was created following a time of isolation as a result of the pandemic.
As Brian’s world shrunk to the confines of his workplace, he began to observe life and relationships at a microscopic level which were to be developed through his sketchbooks.
Kieran Quinn, general manager at Kimpton Charlotte Square said: “Working with Studio Bizio has allowed us to push our boundaries as a hotel, with bold striking pieces it’s an exhibition like we’ve never seen before, and we’re excited to have this in place as we welcome in the new year.”
Guests and members of the public are invited to see Ruben Natal-San-Miguel, Joanna Black and Brian McFie’s work on display at Kimpton Charlotte Square until the end of January.
