Located in the heart of Leith, Coburg House is home to over 60+ artists, designers, and makers. Across four floors of working studios, visitors will discover a thriving hub of creativity that has become one of Scotland’s leading artist collectives. Founded in the early 2000s in a former seed warehouse, Coburg House has grown into a pillar of the local arts community. Its Open Studios weekends have long been a much-anticipated fixture in the city’s cultural calendar, offering an alternative to the high street and a chance to connect directly with artists.
For the fine art enthusiast you have stunning figurative works from Stephanie Rew; atmospheric landscape paintings from Evie Rose Thornton; abstract delights from Joy Arden; surrealist and thought-provoking scenarios from Stephen Mangan and David Schofield, and the playfully evocative scenes by Lynn Hanley. Fans of metalwork and woodwork can be enthralled by the sculptural works from Bryony Knox and Mette Fruergaard-Jensen.
For those who would rather wear their art, Coburg is home to some of Edinburgh’s finest jewellers, including Donna Barry, Lorna Hewitt, Misun Won and Christina Hirst. If you would like to introduce a splash of colour, the studios boast bold resin jewellery from Kaz Robertson and Carla Edwards, and ceramic masterpieces from Beth Lamont. While most residents are now incorporating sustainable practices into their business, jewellers Eleanor Symms and Fiona Luing are taking it one step further by reusing, repurposing or recycling their materials to create totally sustainable, earth-conscious, wearable works of art.
From the world of fashion and textiles, you will be delighted to discover the beautifully crafted crochet bags and plant hangers by The Unraveling, colourful woollen designs by K.Moods, data- inspired knitwear from Knot Unknot, and meticulous weaving by PickOne and Loimi & Ko. For something a little bit different, we host award-winning cartoonist and illustrator Jon McNaught, showcasing printmaking, original paintings and books. Or if you are in the market for a bespoke kilt, head to Veronica Rose from Rosekilts.
Beyond the studios, the building is also home to an artist-run Shop and Gallery, open year-round on weekends, showcasing resident and guest artists. During Open Studios, both will feature special displays celebrating Coburg’s unique artist community, including bespoke brooches and one-of-a-kind 20cmx20cm artworks.
The event kicks off with a lively Opening Night on Friday 5th December (6–9pm), with music, drinks provided by Moonwake Beer Co. and Leith Spirits, and a first look at the studios. Doors reopen over the weekend from 10am–5pm, Saturday and Sunday, with cafe refreshments from Domenicos. Whether you’re a seasoned collector, a design-lover, or simply curious, this is a unique chance to experience the energy and spirit of one of Edinburgh’s most beloved creative spaces. Join us in celebrating 20 years of artistic excellence and community.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
