Meg Bateman:
Tha Meg Bateman am measg nam bàrd as cliùitiche ann an Alba, a’ sgrìobhadh ann an Gàidhlig agus Beurla. Anns a’ chiad chruinneachadh bàrdachd aice, Òrain Ghaoil (1989), tha dàin Ghàidhlig agus Gaeilge a’ dol an aghaidh dùil bàrdachd gaol tradiseanta. Thòisich i ri dàin a sgrìobhadh nuair a bha i a’ teagasg san Roinn Ceiltis aig Oilthigh Obair Dheathainn, is tha i a-nis ag obair aig Sabhal Mòr Ostaig air an Eilean Sgitheanach.
Meg Bateman is one of Scotland’s most celebrated poets, working in Gaelic and English. Her debut collection Òrain Ghaoil (1989) includes love poems written in both Scots and Irish Gaelic that broke through the clichés of love poetry in the Gaelic tradition. She started writing poetry while teaching at the University of Aberdeen’s Celtic department and now works at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on Skye.
Deborah Moffatt:
’S ann à Vermont dùthchail sna Stàitean Aonaichte a tha Deborah Moffatt bho thùs, ach rinn i obair mar neach-naidheachd ann an Argentina, Uruguay agus Meagsago mus tàinig i a dh’Alba, far a bheil i a-nis a’ fuireach leis a’ chèile agus a’ chat aice. Tha i a’ sgrìobhadh bàrdachd ann an Gàidhlig agus sa Bheurla, agus tha an togail-suas dùthchail aice na phàirt chudromach den chruinneachadh bàrdachd aice, Dàn nan Dùil (CLÀR, 2019).
Deborah Moffatt is originally from rural Vermont, USA, but has lived and worked as a journalist in Argentina, Uruguay and Mexico, before settling in Scotland with her husband and her cat. She writes poetry in both English and Gaelic, and her rural upbringing plays an integral part in her Gaelic poetry collection, Dàn nan Dùil (CLÀR, 2019).
Beth Frieden:
’S e sgrìobhadair, cleasaiche agus cleasaiche-gutha Ameirigeanach a th’ ann am Beth Frieden. Fhuair i Duais Ghàidhlig nan Sgrìobhadairean Ùra 2021, agus rinn i obair air a’ bhàrdachd aice le taic bho Mheg Bateman. Tha an sgrìobhadh aice air nochdadh ann an New Writing Scotland agus Gutter, agus fhauir an dàn aice, ‘Taobh na croaibhe’, dàrna àite aig Farpais Sgrìobhaidh Morton 2019.
Beth Frieden is an American writer, actor, and voice artist based in Glasgow. She won the Gaelic New Writers Award for Poetry in 2021 and has been developing her poetry under Meg Bateman’s mentorship. Her work has appeared in New Writing Scotland and Gutter, and her poem, ‘Taobh na craoibhe’, was runner up in the 2019 Morton Writing Competition.
