Salt Lick brings together three emerging artists, Hannah Cash, Sinéad Kempley and Rachel Stanley, whose practices span painting, installation and movement. Through a continuous process of material play, the artists produce highly tactile, sculptural works which probe ideas of materiality and shifting perspectives.
The exhibition showcases for the first time the links between the artists’ varying practices, which thread together through an engagement with the rhythms of the contemporary landscape. They are each concerned with the minutiae of the natural world - not the picturesque view from the top of the mountain, but rather the scramble to get there: the feeling of jaggedy rocks beneath their feet; the forms and shapes of the geology, flora and fauna they encounter; and the bodily experience of moving through landscape. They are interested in a deeply sensory and textural encounter with the world, one which is ambiguous and constantly in flux.
