Colin Robertson, a Scottish landscape painter, with 19 new paintings at the exhibition 'Quiet Mind', will be at the gallery to talk about his work. Everybody is welcome to stop by without advance registration.
Colin started painting and drawing at the age of twenty-four. After his graduation from the Edinburgh Art College in 1989 he worked part-time for the Church of Scotland, running art classes for people who have faced challenges in their daily living - living either through addiction, mental health or learning difficulties. Currently, he still works with the Eskmills project. Colin is also a keen musician and also paints scenery for the Pathhead players drama group.Over the last 10 years Colin has renovated a derelict stable block into his house and a studio in Whitehill, a village just south of Edinburgh. It bacame operational just in January 2022 and allowed Colin to paint larger works for this exhibition.
Colin shares: “I like being in the landscape on my own; I like the time and space to muse over the purpose of being. Like a child I still get excited by a really deep snow fall where the landscape is dense with silence. I love the excitement of the howling wind or the sharp tingle of the freezing cold air before the sun comes when I emerge from my tent after a really uncomfortable night’s sleep. As a painter I never tire of the display of light on the landscape and the difference it makes to its surrounding environment each day. I never cease to be amazed how light silently changes and transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. I try to capture this in my paintings.”
