Have you ever wanted to read a book or short story in Japanese, but found keeping up with all the unfamiliar language so tiring you gave up just a page or so in? If so, you're not alone!
Through tadoku (多読 - extensive reading), we will explore a new approach to reading, introducing techniques that help you to relax into and enjoy reading Japanese.
Tadoku is an increasingly popular method of learning Japanese, but is also simply a lot of fun! As well as practising your Japanese, you will have the chance to explore interesting cultural topics and share what you learn with fellow participants.

--Who Can Take Part?--
Level:
● These sessions are open to all levels from beginner to advanced, but we ask that you are at least mostly comfortable with hiragana (you can bring along a cheat sheet if you like!)
● You do not need to know katakana or kanji to take part in tadoku
● During the sessions, we will help match you with materials that suit your level, from beginner to advanced
Age:
● These sessions are aimed at adults (18+)
● Under 18s can take part if accompanied by a parent or guardian. We ask that the parent or guardian also purchases a ticket.
--What Can I Expect?--
The Tadoku Taster events are a collaboration between Ippo Ippo Japanese's Elly Darrah and Japanese teacher Hitomi Kobayashi, author of several Japanese language textbooks.
We will:
● Introduce tadoku as a reading and learning method
● Discuss the Golden Rules of Tadoku
● Enjoy reading both as a group and individually
● Share our thoughts and discoveries with one another
● Talk about where to find more tadoku resources
As the aim of the event is to have fun while reading, you can expect a low pressure environment that you can enjoy at your own pace. During the individual reading section, participants will be given separate breakout rooms, to which Hitomi or Elly will drop in to help you with any questions.
At the end of each session there will time for Q&A. Feel free to ask about tadoku or anything else related to learning Japanese.
