Maggie is a successful career woman who wants a child, but not the hassle of a boyfriend or partner. Then she reconnects with old flame John.
Maggie (Greta Gerwig) has never really wanted a family and has never really known the right person to be with. Yet in her 30s and with a successful career opening up for she feels the pull of motherhood. Choosing to go it alone rather than encumber herself with a flaky partner, or someone she just doesn't want to be with, she looks into ways of starting a family herself.
However, when John (Ethan Hawke) re-enters her life, her principled ambitions collide against a perfect set of circumstances. Rebecca Miller's assured comedy of manners asks all kind of questions about what we really want in life and how best to go about getting it.
NOTES: Features sexual themes.
