About Edinburgh Multicultural Festival

This year we are celebrating the 7th edition of the Edinburgh Multicultural Festival! We are back at Lauriston Castle with a mix of music, dance, poetry, circus and theatre!

All events are designed for all ages and can be booked free of charge. You can book tickets for event slots or the entire day depending on your preference and availability on the day.

From family cultural experiences at the Edinburgh-Kyoto Friendship Garden, to fun-filled circus workshops for all ages to a unique blend of musical genres and influences on the Main Stage, this year's programme features local diverse performance artists that will entertain and inspire. We hope you will find many goods reasons to join us on 30 August!

1-3PM

Edinburgh-Kyoto Friendship Garden will welcome the Japanese Tea Ceremony and Storigami with Mio Shudo back due to popular demand. So will Josephine Morton with a Chinese Knotting exhibition and workshop. Live music by Preetha Nirmala and cultural dance performances featuring the Edinburgh Chinese Arts Association and Ahalya Dance Academy will harmoniously compliment your experience of this heritage garden.

1-4PM

Think Circus will bring the sense of wonder that circus shows evoke in audiences of all ages to Lauriston Castle this year. Circus workshops and performances that combine human skill, artistry, and entertainment, will create a magical world where imagination takes flight!

4-8PM

Main MUSIC Stage will be shared by an Irish singer-songwriter, Heidi Talbot, whose enchanting sounds will mesmerise hearts and minds, a Malawian-born reggae musician Luhangah, whose powerful performance will energise bodies, a multitalented and skilled Spanish music and dance group, TuFlamenco, will inflame passion for dance, and the feel-good music by the Scottish Album of the Year nominee Brownbear, will warm hearts with the indie-soul sound goodness.

The music stage will also feature Salty Seas musical theatre performance that sheds light on historic and fictional characters whose lives were affected by slavery and the abolitionist movement in Scotland and beyond. Dramatised stories of John Edmonstone, Joseph Knight and Ann Thompson, David Hume, and Malvina Wells are interpreted through original music, spoken word and dance.

Written by Morgan Njobo and co-composed with Ramcise Modie. Developed and performed as part of the Edinburgh900 Civic Fund Programme.
