The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh and Pitlochry Festival Theatre present SOPHIA by Frances Poet in association with Naked Productions Ltd.
The fifth play in our Sound Stage season tells the the true story of Sophia Jex-Blake and the Edinburgh Seven, who fought sexism in the university to become the first women to be able to study medicine and become working doctors.
Frances Poet is a Scottish playwright whose recent works include Fibres, Gut (winner of the Writers Guild Best Play Award), and the multi-award winning Adam.
Frances has also completed a number of classic adaptations including The Macbeths, What Put the Blood (Andromaque), Dance of Death and The Misanthrope as well as the radio plays ALT Delete, Gut and The Disappointed and scripts for film and television.
Sound Stage is a new audio-digital platform offering audiences the chance to have an ‘at home theatre experience’ designed by theatre makers and leading audio digital technologists. Soak in the virtual theatre atmosphere, mingle with other theatre-goers, bring your drinks and chatter in a virtual bar; arrange to meet a friend from anywhere in the world! There will be a call bell to take your 'seats', and post-show talks too. We'll meet you there!
