About Digital Lecture: Aunts: In Fact and Fiction

On International Women’s Day we are going to explore and celebrate Aunts, in fact and in fiction. Join Ruthanne Baxter, for an hour in the company of women who range in character from the sweet and adorable, to the strong-willed and rebellious, to the truly eccentric but are all united by their role as Aunt and their appearance in books. Among these women will be Susan Edmonstone Ferrier, a novelist born in Lady Stair's Close, an address shared by our beloved Writers' Museum.

Ruthanne, who is Museums Manager and Prescribe Culture Lead at the University of Edinburgh, has a love of heritage and literature, and many of the characters found in both. Her passion has led her to appearing at the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the Richmond Georgian Festival. Ruthanne is currently delivering a short mental wellbeing course of Handwriting with Heritage, as part of the Prescribe Culture Initiative.

This event is devised with the non-expert in mind. It promises to be light-touch and entertaining.

All attendees will be sent joining instructions a day or so before the event. Please check your junk/spam folder if you don't hear from us by an hour before.

The lecture will be on Microsoft Teams, so if you join us on a mobile device (mobile phone or tablet) you will need to download the app (free) from the App Store / Google Play Store beforehand.
