Saxophonist Martin Kershaw and guitarist Graeme Stephen founded Playtime with bassist Mario Caribe and drummer Tom Bancroft in 2014 to give them an opportunity to try out new ideas, play new compositions and pay homage to jazz giants.
They've since created a real buzz around the Outhouse in Broughton Street's loft space every second Thursday by presenting informal sessions of superb quality. Tributes have been paid to Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Keith Jarrett and Pat Metheny, to name just a few of the heroes whose music the quartet has honoured, and an album of completely free improvisation, showing another side of Playtime, has been released to considerable acclaim.
During lockdown, the quartet has continued its quest for adventure, live-streaming from multiple locations.
This latest session features trumpeter Laura Jurd, whose band, Dinosaur has been nominated for the Mercury Music Award and whose work with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra has won praise from critics and audiences alike.
While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Playtime with Laura Jurd are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
