Edinburgh Open Workshop (EOW), the capital’s community hub for makers, creatives, and DIY enthusiasts, is excited to announce its latest course drop - featuring an expanded range of hands-on workshops in woodworking, welding, DIY, mixed media, and two newly developed laser-cutting workshops.
This season’s line-up introduces fresh opportunities for beginners and seasoned makers alike to learn new skills directly from professional makers, many of whom are resident or PAYG members of EOW’s vibrant creative community.
Building on EOW’s growing laser-cutting offering, this winter course-drop includes two brand-new creative experiences that open up exciting possibilities for precision design and modern making:
• Create Your Own Christmas Tree - craft a custom tabletop centrepiece ready for the festive season.
• Create Your Own Acrylic Lamp - design and assemble your own illuminated creation using acrylic and laser-cut components.
These additions join a line-up of refreshed and returning favourites:
• Furniture Upcycling - transform pre-loved pieces into something uniquely yours.
• Craft a Stool - a combined welding and woodworking workshop perfect for anyone looking to build useful skills while crafting a functional piece of furniture.
• Essential DIY Skills - empowering participants with practical knowledge for home improvements.
• Woodworking & Welding - learn the core techniques behind these essential crafts. Courses include 2-day and weekly welding classes for beginners, and a range of woodworking options, from Basics of Woodworking, to Introduction to Fine Woodworking and Learn to Make Your Own Furniture
“With the introduction of new laser cutting workshops, we’re expanding the creative horizons of what people can experience and make here at EOW,” said Jessi James, Development Manager at Edinburgh Open Workshop. “Our professional maker-tutors bring incredible skill, passion, and real-world experience to every class. Whether you're looking to kickstart a new hobby in the New Year or find the perfect hands-on Christmas gift, we have something for everyone.”
These workshops offer an ideal way to start 2026 with a new skill, explore a creative passion, or gain confidence in practical techniques. They also make for a meaningful and memorable Christmas present - EOW gift vouchers are available and can be used toward any course or workshop.
