With an incredible line-up of Christmas-themed activities, running from Saturday 30th November to Friday 6th January, a visit to Dynamic Earth this December is set to get the whole family in the festive spirit!
Highlights of the Festive Programme Include:
1. The Winter Experience – Santa’s Grotto
£15 per child / 30th Nov – 23rd Dec
Dynamic Earth is offering a stand-alone Winter Experience, providing families the flexibility to enjoy the grotto as a separate activity or as part of their day at Dynamic Earth. This festive offering gives parents more choice when planning their seasonal outings, ensuring a magical experience for all.
Those who book in should prepare their little ones to travel to the North Pole to Santa’s enchanting Polar Grotto, where the magic of Christmas comes alive before your eyes. During your visit you will get the opportunity: to learn all about Santa’s polar friends from Santa himself as he shares a heartwarming tale about the amazing creatures of the polar regions. Explore the wonders of his icy world as you listen to stories of the Arctic and Antarctic. Capture the magic with a special photo in Santa’s sleigh and meet his reindeer for an unforgettable moment and, for those of you who are on the nice list, receive a personalised token to exchange for a handpicked gift - straight from Santa’s elves!
2. Daily Planetarium Shows
INCLUDED IN ADMISSION / 30th Nov – 31st Dec
The Dynamic Earth team are over the moon to announce the return of its What’s Up? Winter Wonderland daily planetarium shows. Running all the way through December, get ready you experience stunning winter constellations, icy moons, and real auroras. returning is We Are Stars, narrated by Andy Serkis, revealing the explosive origins of the Universe.
3. The Muppet Christmas Carol:
The Muppets debut on weekends with a musical retelling of Dickens’ classic. See below for dates and times:

4. Planetarium
2 evenings / 6 shows / 18 + / 22nd and 23rd December
After hours, Edinburgh's only Planetarium transforms into a magical setting, where you can enjoy your favourite films beneath a sky full of stars. Dive into captivating Christmas classic this December in Dynamic Earth’s 6K resolution Planetarium. Enjoy a cosy evening this Christmas with The Holiday and Love Actually, plus the last chance to see Dark Side of the Moon. Make it a night by sipping on festive cocktails.
5. Winter Science Sessions
£4 / 13th and 20th December
Looking for a way to get the kids in the holiday spirit? DynaMites (under 4s) and Dynamos (4 – 6-year-olds) science sessions are getting a winter makeover! Learn all about Antarctica’s coolest resident, the penguin with winter-themed sensory storytelling and learn about temperature change with thermal technology.
6. Polar Encounters
FREE drop-in activities / 27th December – 6th January
Learn all about wildlife that thrives in some of planet Earth’s most extreme cold environments. Visitors can expect to get hands-on with infrared cameras to investigate animal blubber, explore the wonders of the Northern Lights with an aurora artwork station, and make a papercraft polar pal to take home!
