Edinburgh, 10 December 2024 – Sip & Bark, the beloved dog-friendly café in Edinburgh, has announced a new partnership with Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home through the launch of an exclusive membership club offering local animal lovers a chance to support pets in need while enjoying exclusive discounts.
The initiative comes at a pivotal moment. Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has faced increasing pressures, with demand for its services continuing to rise. Over the past year alone (August 2023–July 2024), the Home admitted 385 pets into care, rehomed 218 dogs and cats, and reunited 87 missing pets with their families. With winter approaching, the organisation also faces raising operational costs to care for pets in need. They have recently launched their Winter Appeal, aiming to raise £134,500 to support with the costs.
The statistics paint a picture of the growing demand for Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s services. In the first six months of 2024 alone, the Home’s helpline handled 17,995 calls - already surpassing the total for all of 2023. These calls represent over 872 hours spent providing emotional support, signposting to resources, and offering guidance to pet owners. To put it into perspective, that’s the equivalent of watching every James Bond movie 16 times.
For an annual donation of just £10, members receive exclusive discounts at Sip & Bark, while knowing that 100% of their donation goes directly to Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home. Additionally, 5% of from each sale made to club members will go towards helping pets in need.
By creating a simple way for locals to support the home, Sip & Bark hopes to make a difference during this challenging season.
Kasia Neilson, Co-Owner of Sip & Bark, shared her enthusiasm for the partnership: “Supporting our community and caring for pets are at the heart of Sip & Bark’s values, so we wanted to give back in a way that genuinely helps Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home, especially as winter can be a notoriously tough time. This new membership offers Sip & Bark customers an easy way to support the local dog and cat home while enjoying discounts on delicious food & drink.”
Lindsay Fyffe-Jardine, CEO of Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, highlighted the importance of partnerships like this one: “We are here for both pets and people during their darkest times. Whether it's helping a family in crisis keep their beloved pet through food support or finding a loving new home for an animal in need, we couldn’t do this without the support of our community. Initiatives like the Sip & Bark Membership Club are a perfect example of how local businesses and the public can come together to make a real impact.”
The Sip & Bark Membership Club is available for sign-up by visiting the cáfe.
