For the second year in a row, the theatre received over 80 applications from wonderful charities from across Scotland who were interested in partnering with them. After careful consideration, Care For Carers and Macmillan Cancer Support were selected by Edinburgh Playhouse staff.
This news follows a very successful year of the theatre fundraising with charity partners SAMH, Vintage Vibes and Simba which involved year-round bucket collections after performances, fundraising challenges such as taking part in the Kiltwalk, abseiling down the Forth Bridge, running in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, collaborating with Edinburgh Street Food and Here You Come Again for a choir performance, and taking part in an inflatable 5k run.
Gordon Millar, Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre Director says, “It’s fantastic to be working with Care For Carers and Macmillan Cancer Support for our next fundraising year - two charities which are close to our hearts at the Edinburgh Playhouse. We hope that, by partnering with these important charities, we can raise awareness of the support they are able to offer our audience members and local community and help them raise vital funds to continue their invaluable work.”
Ruth MacLennan, CEO Care For Carers says, “All of us at Care for Carers are delighted that The Edinburgh Playhouse have chosen us as their Charity of the Year.”
Matthew Smith, Macmillan Cancer Support’s Relationship Fundraising Manager says, “We are so grateful to be chosen as one of the Edinburgh Playhouse charity partners for 2024/2025. This exciting partnership will provide important cancer information for the people of Edinburgh and will help us to ensure everyone with cancer knows where to turn to get the help they need. The money raised by staff and theatre goers will allow us to continue investing in our services, helping to bring forward the day when everyone gets life-transforming support from day one.”
With a stand-out line up of shows over the next year, the Edinburgh Playhouse will work with touring productions to facilitate bucket collections after performances, take part in fundraising challenges and put Care For Carers and Macmillan Cancer Support in the spotlight.
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay has announced the event will include live streaming for the first time, opening the New Year’s Day performances to audiences around the world.
