Spring screening for theatre lovers at Vue Edinburgh Omni & Vue Edinburgh Ocean
Theatre lovers have a lot to celebrate this World Theatre Day (27 March), with Vue screening some of the UK’s best stage productions throughout spring.

Screening from this week (21 March) is the electrifying play by Sam Mendes, The Motive and The Cue. This fierce and funny play follows Richard Burton, newly married to Elizabeth Taylor, as he embarks on playing the title role in an experimental new Broadway production of Hamlet under John Gielgud’s exacting direction.
But as rehearsals progress, two ages of theatre collide and the collaboration between actor and director soon threatens to unravel. This award-winning best new play was filmed live during a sold-out run at the National Theatre.
Technically screening on the eve of World Theatre Day, the Royal Opera House’s Madama Butterfly tells the story of a young geisha who marries an American Naval Officer. Forsaking her religion and community, she learns all too late that their marriage is merely an illusion – with tragic consequences.
Puccini’s devastating tragedy – both entrancing and heart-breaking – will be screening on 26 March at Vue, with the exquisite production taking inspiration from 19th-century European images of Japan.
Arriving next month is Nye, starring Michael Sheen, who plays the titular character Nye Bevan in a surreal and spectacular journey through the life and legacy of the man who transformed Britain’s welfare state and created the NHS.
Confronted with death, Aneurin ‘Nye’ Bevan’s deepest memories lead him on a mind-bending journey back through his life; from childhood to mining underground, Parliament and fights with Churchill.
Finally, looking ahead to May, the sizzling new production Carmen from Damiano Michieletto will be arriving on screens for one night only. Evoking all the passion and heat of Bizet's score, Antonello Manacorda conducts an exciting international cast, with Aigul Akhmetshina performing the title role.
