• New foodie app serves up hundreds of videos of Edinburgh's best restaurant dishes
• LoveBite helps users discover new food to fall in love with, from local hotspots including The Herringbone, Ka Pao, The Walnut, and more
• Users swipe right on dishes they fancy - liked dishes are saved on their profile
An innovative new foodie app launches 6th November 2023 which showcases short videos of interesting restaurant dishes, allowing users to swipe through hundreds of dishes while deciding which tickles their fancy.
LoveBite is unlike any other foodie app and combines users' love of food with the sensation of eating with their eyes first - all culminating to create the straplines, “Your perfect food matchmaker” and “Love at first swipe”.
Over 50 Edinburgh restaurants are showcasing their dishes on LoveBite at launch, including local hotspots such as The Herringbone, Ka Pao, Greenwoods, Forage and Chatter, Junk, Le Petite Beefbar and The Walnut.
Short videos provide an instant 3D image of the dish served, so the user knows what to expect on the restaurant table. LoveBite’s “swipe-to-like” feature works like dating apps, and the use of bite-size videos leans into the popularity of TikTok and Snapchat.
People eat with their eyes first,” explains Gareth Hughes, LoveBite’s founder and CEO, “and that’s why we’ve created LoveBite. Apart from being a major cultural centre and all-round brilliant city, Edinburgh has a vibrant food scene with many amazing independent restaurants, so it ticked all the boxes as a great city to launch LoveBite.”
“We want to help users discover new dishes to try while boosting the independent restaurant scene by showcasing their dishes to potential new customers.”
LoveBite will be providing awards for the most popular dishes, based on the percentage of views that are swiped right, generating valuable publicity for restaurants.
“LoveBite is a fun and useful way of searching out food to fall in love with – we’ve undertaken serious user testing prior to launch with an amazing response, so we’re optimistic the app will be a hit,” said LoveBite’s UK Director and Edinburgh resident, Mark Ostheimer. “All the restaurants we’ve invited to participate see how LoveBite can help attract new customers, and we’ve been blown away by their enthusiasm, as well as the magnificent food served up for our video shoots.”
LoveBite is available for free on both the App Store and Google Play. The features include:
• Swipe right on the dishes you fancy, swipe left on those you don’t
• Short videos of dishes deliver a multi-sensory experience
• A handy list of your favourite dishes is automatically created for when you’re peckish
• Filters to select specific cuisines/dish types depending on your mood
• Direct booking, directions to the restaurant, and ordering of delivery.
“Whatever your taste, we’ll help you find new dishes to love” explained Mark. “The Edinburgh food scene is renowned for its quality, diversity, and creativity. With a thriving restaurant scene, innovative chefs, and access to some of the freshest ingredients in the country, it’s full of culture and something for everyone. There’s a strong sense of community among food lovers, and we want to invite them to get involved.”
