Casting has been announced for new musical Burns, debuting at the Edinburgh Playhouse on 20th January 2023 and featuring an all-Scottish, all female cast (barring Burns himself!) largely based in the Highlands.
This casting is a celebration of Scottish talent, driving the message that homegrown creatives need not migrate south to pursue a professional and storied career in the entertainment industry.
Burns will play three performances across 20th – 21st January - Book tickets: HERE
Burns. A reimagination of the life of the Scottish 'People's Poet', Robert Burns.
Robert Burns is alive and well and living in the modern world! A genius with weakness? Yes. A womaniser, yes, but a cheat, no. Gifted, passionate and flawed, this farmer's son wants to make his father proud but is pulled between a life of duty and the calling of his creative destiny.
When his musical masterpiece written for 'The King of Pop' thrills the world, the fame Robert earns burns brightly...his new social media virality shining on both the light and the dark of his deeds, ultimately sparking a return to his roots to reach his salvation.
Tish Tindall – At the helm of Burns is Tish Tindall: director, producer, musical director, composer and playwright; also performing as the Narrator and on piano for the piece. Her 30+ year career has seen multiple Edinburgh Fringe productions, including Robert Burns the Musical (2015, 2019), Defying GraviTT (2020) and Robert Burns, David Gest, Michael Jackson and Me (2016), alongside regional and national productions. As a composer, Tish creates musical theatre, film scores, television soundtracks and bespoke compositions for projects both nationally and further afield, including that of Lego and Universal. An educator as well, Tish is co-founder of Lossie Entertainment Academy and works passionately to bridge the gap between arts education and industry.
Diane Aspinall – Producer and director of Burns, Diane Aspinall is also the choreographer and plays Tracey Cumberworth in the production. Her 30+ year career has seen international work across dance, fitness instruction and dance education, along with performing and producing. A former pupil of Dorothy Stevens and graduate of Bird College, Diane is the co-founder of Lossie Entertainment Academy, where she has taken her prestigious training and skills into the classroom where she guides future arts professionals on a life-affirming approach to the journey of self discipline and belief necessary for a successful and sustained career in the arts.
Lucy Tindall – Former pupil of Lossie Entertainment Academy Lucy Tindall is now choreographer and dance captain for Burns, also playing Meg O’Shanter and appearing in the ensemble. She has previously appeared in UK tours of Lossie Elite Dance Company and as a member of Fabulous Musicals, within which she appeared alongside Dionne Warwick, Freda Payne and Gwen Dickie in concert David's Last Wish.
